The Differences Of 201 Steel, 304 Steel and 430 Steel in Kitchen Equipment

Stainless steel is the primary material in commercial kitchen equipment. Understanding the differences between grades helps buyers make informed decisions.

201 Stainless Steel

Cost-effective with lower nickel content. Decent corrosion resistance for indoor applications but lower than 304 grade.

304 Stainless Steel

The most widely used grade with 18% chromium and 8% nickel. Excellent corrosion resistance, durability, and food-safety compliance. Standard for food contact surfaces.

430 Stainless Steel

Ferritic grade with good corrosion resistance. Contains chromium but no nickel, making it more affordable. Used for decorative panels and non-food-contact surfaces.

Which Grade to Choose?

  • Food contact: 304 stainless steel
  • Decorative panels: 430 stainless steel
  • Budget indoor use: 201 stainless steel

Acenox uses premium 304 stainless steel for all food-contact surfaces.
